AS Roma Coach, Jose Mourinho Sacked Over Poor Run Of Results

JOSE MOURINHO

Jose Mourinho’s tenure as AS Roma manager has come to an abrupt end after the club over poor run of results of the club.

The club announced his dismissal on Tuesday.

According to the club, the Portuguese coach, who joined Roma in May 2021, failed to improve the team’s performance in the 2023/24 season, leaving them languishing in the bottom half of the Serie A table.

However, Mourinho’s sacking comes despite his success in the previous two seasons, when he guided Roma to their first European trophy in 30 years by winning the Conference League in 2022, and to the Europa League final in 2023, where they lost to Sevilla on penalties.

But, those achievements were not enough to save him from the axe, as Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin decided to make a change in the hope of reviving the club’s fortunes.

In a statement, the club thanked Mourinho and his staff for their passion and commitment, and wished them the best for the future.

Mourinho, who was the sixtieth manager in Roma’s history, is now looking for a new challenge in his illustrious career, which has seen him win trophies in Portugal, England, Italy, Spain and France.
