The Nigerian Army has welcomed the offer of a prominent Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to join hands with the security agents in tackling the menace of herdsmen in the South-West region.
The Spokesman of the Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, who gave this statement said that the army appreciated the gesture of Igboho and other community leaders who were willing to cooperate with the security forces in restoring peace and stability in the country.
According to him, I have not seen the video where he made that statement, but one thing I must say is that people and communities are always welcomed. If what he said is to make the situation better, he is welcomed, but if what he is saying is that we should disregard the armed forces of Nigeria, definitely, he is out of line because that is against Nigeria’s constitution.
He also gave an update on the achievements of the military in the month of February, stating that the army had neutralized 974 terrorists, arrested 621, and rescued 466 hostages from various parts of the country.
He said that the army was committed to creating a safer environment for the citizens by eliminating all threats to their safety and security.
He added that the army had conducted coordinated strikes on the hideouts of the terrorists, inflicting heavy casualties on them.
He further highlighted the successes of the military in different geo-political zones of the country, demonstrating the army’s dedication to the national security interests.
The army’s collaboration with Igboho and other community leaders is seen as a positive step towards addressing the insecurity challenges in the South-West region, where many farmers and residents have been killed or displaced by the rampaging herdsmen.
The military’s proactive and coordinated efforts underscore its determination to safeguard citizens and ensure the nation’s security.
