President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has slammed the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, for allegedly accusing him of neglecting the nation’s security and economic woes.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed this a statement issued on Tuesday night, said Atiku’s accusations are baseless and reckless.
Recall that Atiku posted on his official X account (formally twitter) on Tuesday, urging President Tinubu to resign if he cannot handle the duties of being Nigeria’s President.
He criticised Tinubu for taking a private trip to France while the country is plagued by rampant kidnapping.
Atiku also said that Nigeria does not need a president who is only interested in tourism.
However, the president through his special adviser, Onanuga replied him saying “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s statement accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of fiddling amidst some security and economic challenges is, to say the least, reckless.”
“We like to believe that Alhaji Atiku is still not nursing the hangover of his electoral defeat and now latches on any issue to attack President Tinubu”
Onanuga claimed that President Tinubu informed Nigerians of his private visit to France and his return date.
He explained that the President has been monitoring the situation at home and is in charge of the country.
He also said that the President is in regular contact with his officials and security chiefs and has instructed them to eliminate all forms of crime in the country.
Onanuga further elucidated that the President has specifically ordered the security teams to capture those criminals who killed two monarchs in Ekiti State and abducted some pupils in the state.
He underscored that the President’s efforts are yielding results, as over 139 kidnappers have been arrested around Abuja, Kaduna and Benue States in the last one week.
He said the police Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and DSS have also freed 154 kidnapped victims in the last few days.
He however adviced that Atiku should be more concerned about security issues and not play cheap politics.
“If Alhaji Atiku is really concerned about security issues and not playing cheap politics, he should have known that President Tinubu is on top of issues and working hard to restore peace to every part of our country.”
