“School in Anambra shut down following bullying of 7-year-old pupil”

Anambra

The Anambra State Government has ordered the swift closure of a rising International School, Awka over the bullying of a seven-year-old pupil.

The state Commissioner for Education in the state, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, made this know in a statement late on Tuesday, adding that the state government acted based on a report that the pupil’s classmate allegedly broke her leg.

“According to Chuma-Udeh, when the school’s proprietor was summoned for questioning, he admitted that the offense was committed in his school and it was revealed that the school was operating without proper approval from the state government.”

She said, “The pupil suffered a broken leg as a result of being bullied by her classmate ” and the matter was reported to the ministry.

“The state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, however, directed that the school be sealed and the commissioner urged parents to desist from sending their children and ward to unapproved schools.

She warned that proprietors of illegal schools would be handed over to law enforcement agents for contravening the laws of the state.
