INSIDE LIFE: Kidnappers Abduct Corpse, Family Member, Demand N50Million Ransom

FREEDOM TIMES reports that some hoodlums have reportedly kidnapped a corpse and family members who were conveying the remains of a dead man, Mr Ugwuanyi Israel, to his home town in Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
One Ikenga, who disclosed this Online, quoted a family member and said, “His corpse was on its way from Lagos yesterday (Sunday) when the vehicle conveying his body was halted by kidnappers and people in the vehicle alongside the driver were all kidnapped at Umuoka Udi LGA of Enugu State.”
According to him, the kidnappers have called the family and demanded a N50 million ransom.
Meanwhile, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof Chidi Odinkalu, also shared the report on his X handle (formally twitter).
He wrote: “Israel Ugwuanyi died in Lagos. Yesterday, family members were conveying his remains to Ameze Owerre, Umabor community in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State in SE #Nigeria when kidnappers abducted them & his dead body. They are demanding N50m in ransom.”
However, when SaharaReporters contacted the Enugu State Police Command for further information, the Command’s spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said he was not aware of the incident.
He said: “Honestly I don’t have any such report.”
