Few Hours After Police Warning, Sanwo-Olu Dares, Uses “No Gree For Anybody Slogan” Publicly

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has defied the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, by using the controversial slogan, “No Gree For Anybody”, in a recent post on X, despite force’s caution against it.

The police had issued a statement on Thursday, urging citizens to avoid the 2024 slogan, which they claimed was dangerous and could spark violence in the country.

The force said the slogan was perceived as a very provocative one that could cause a crisis.

They therefore advised people to stop using it.

But on Friday morning, Sanwo-Olu shared some photos of his meeting with the Super Eagles, who he hosted before they left for Abidjan Afcon2023.

In the post, he encouraged the Super Eagles to do well, telling them not to gree for anybody.

He wrote, “I am looking forward to their first match and the message to them was clear ‘No gree for anybody.’ Bring home the Nations Cup.”

“No gree for anybody,” a pidgin expression that means toughness or stubbornness or no retreat, became popular in 2024, when Nigerian social media users adopted it as a new year slogan.

The slogan has been trending among young Nigerians, including celebrities.
