In a sweeping operation that underscores the ongoing battle against cybercrime in Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 36 individuals for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.
The arrests, which took place on February 23, 2024, were carried out by the diligent operatives of the Kaduna Zonal Command.
The suspects, consisting of 35 men and one woman, were taken into custody from various locations within the Zaria Local Government Area, namely Sabo Kaduna, Narayi Highcoast, and Layin Dogon Iche Samaru.
The commission said that, this decisive action followed after the receipt of credible intelligence pinpointing the suspects’ engagement in cyber-related offences.
It Futher said that, during the operation, the EFCC seized an array of electronic devices believed to be instrumental in the commission of these crimes.
The haul included “43 mobile phones and five laptops,” which are now subject to forensic examination as part of the Commission’s comprehensive investigation.
The EFCC who affirmed its commitment to due process and the rule of law, stated that the suspects will be duly charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
This latest crackdown is a testament to the EFCC’s relentless pursuit of justice and its unwavering resolve to rid the nation of the scourge of internet fraud.
