Make victory count, Sanwo-Olu counsels Okpebholo

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressive Congress on his win in the Edo State gubernatorial election, which took place on Saturday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), proclaimed Senator Monday Okpebholo the winner after outpacing Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party in the Edo State gubernatorial election.

The APC candidate who secured a decisive victory with 291,667 votes, outpacing PDP’s Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes, while LP’s Akpata trailed behind with 22,763 votes.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is thrilled about the APC’s win in the Edo State gubernatorial election, calling it a “landslide victory” for the party. Sanwo-Olu’s special adviser, Gboyega Akosile, released a statement on Monday, conveying the governor’s excitement about the APC’s decisive win.

Governor Sanwo-Olu sees the APC’s victory in Edo State as a resounding affirmation of the party’s stronghold across Nigeria, spanning multiple levels of governance. He commends the people of Edo State for rebuffing the ruling PDP and embracing the APC candidate, underscoring that their choice serves as a powerful declaration of their aspirations

“I congratulate Edo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for emerging victorious in Saturday’s gubernatorial election,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“The landslide victory of Senator Okpebholo and the ruling party showed that Edo people know what is right, and they have done what is right by sacking the PDP and voting for the APC.”

He urged the Governor-elect to ensure that his victory serves all citizens of Edo State, regardless of political, social, or ethnic affiliations, stating, “Make this victory count for all Edo people.”

Sanwo-Olu further expressed confidence that the APC administration in Edo would surpass the expectations of the electorate, ushering in what he described as a “breath of fresh air” for the state.

The Lagos State Governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for fostering a level playing field during the election and acknowledged the role of the INEC in conducting a fair and transparent process.

Tinubu earlier congratulated the governor-elect and the APC at large for the victory.

He also praised the security agencies for ensuring the safety of all involved in the election.

Sanwo-Olu specifically thanked key APC figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and members of the Governor Bassey Ottu-led National Campaign Council for their efforts in securing the party’s victory in Edo.
