Floodwaters overrun Maiduguri zoo, releasing dangerous animals into homes.

In the aftermath of the devastating flood that swept through parts of Maiduguri, a multitude of dangerous animals, including crocodiles, snakes, and other hazardous species, have reportedly taken over the affected areas, particularly around the Post Office and Monday Market, located in close proximity to Shehu Kyarimi Park, also known as the Maiduguri Zoo.

According to reports, the flood affected a wide range of areas, including educational institutions like the University of Maiduguri and its Teaching Hospital, residential areas such as Gwange, Moromoro, State Low-Cost, and the 500 Abbagana Housing Estate, commercial hubs like Monday Market and Lagos Street, the NUJ Centre, and even the seat of government, the Government House.

The flooding which has led to the displacement of thousands of people, who have been forced to flee their homes, and has caused extensive damage to property, with estimated losses running into billions of naira.

As of press time, thousands of residents were seen evacuating their belongings to safer areas like Bulumkutu, Gomari Airport, and Tashan Baga, while victims have called for urgent government assistance.

Unconfirmed reports from sources indicate that many lives may have been lost in the ongoing flood.

This unfortunate disaster comes at a time when Governor Babagana Zulum is out of the country, and his Deputy, Umar Kadafur, is away on annual leave.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno Command, ASP Kenneth Daso, has since urged the public to remain vigilant as the police and other relevant agencies work to safeguard lives and property during this critical time.
