Dangote Refinery’s entry into the petrol market has sparked a wave of reactions and comments on social media from Nigerians. The Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, while addressing the press on Tuesday, confirmed the rollout of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from the refinery.
According to him, the development is a significant milestone in Nigeria’s history, marking the country’s first production of petrol in many years.
However, the news has been met with mixed reactions on social media, particularly on X, formerly known as Twitter.
While some are curious about the colourless and transparent appearance of the petrol compared to the typical yellow hue Nigerians are familiar with, others are eager to know the price at which the petrol will be sold.
Reacting to the development, an X user, @Truenaija001, tweeted, “Wow wow wow I cannot believe it. But why is the colour different, it looks clear like it is water.”
Similarly, @BadmanSaks wrote, “Someone should explain this to me o, the fuel on dangote’s table looks like water, how come the ones I have been seeing looks like urine or yellowish??? Is it that this dangote own is the legit one or what? Someone should explain biko.”
While enlightening people about the reason for the colourless nature of the Dangote petrol, @lolujubril wrote, “High quality fuel ⛽️ resemble water 💦, we should sensitize our people before they think it’s fake.”
Curious about the petrol’s price, @TundeOladele12220 tweeted, “Good news, but why no news about the price? Or it’ll be the same with the current price?”
In a similar vein, @Optee4 wrote, “At how much? Same price we are buying currently or help slash price? 🤔.”
Other Nigerians, in their reactions, praised Dangote for the development and described the commencement of petrol production as timely.
@joshuamatinjah wrote, “With this project of Dangote Refinery, Nigeria is certain of smiling again. 🇳🇬😄
Let’s watch how it goes then.
Another user, @Chigoziemacdom, tweeted, “Big Congratulations to Dangote🎉 . Big Congratulations to Nigeria. We finally have #Fuel produced in Nigeria.
