Adeleke Removes Crown From 3 Traditional Rulers’ Head In Osun

GOV. ADELEKE

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has revoked the appointments of three traditional rulers who were installed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, in a controversial manner.

The affected monarchs are Oba Adegboyega Famodun of Igbajo, Oba Ademola Ponle of Iree and Oba Yinusa Akadiri of Ikirun.

The governor announced the decision in a statement on Thursday, after approving the White Papers on the recommendations of a committee he set up to probe the chieftaincy matters in the state.

The committee, chaired by Honourable Bunmi Jenyo, found that the appointments of the three monarchs violated the legal and customary requirements and were done in haste by the former governor.

The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, said the governor has ordered a fresh and inclusive selection process for the vacant stools, in line with due process and tradition.

The statement also said the government has set up a task force to recover the government vehicles taken away by the officials of the Oyetola administration.

The government further directed the publication of the six white papers in the official gazette and urged the public to obtain copies from the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment.
