Three to Die by Hanging, One Acquitted in Rivers

High-Court-Rivers

A Port Harcourt High Court on Thursday sentenced three kidnappers and murderers, Boma Thompson, Emelike Mathias, and Daniel Thankgod, to death by hanging, while freeing one of their accomplices.

The four men were accused of abducting and killing one Abbot Ogbobula, in June 2017.

According to reports, the kidnappers abducted Ogbobula in Ahoada, Rivers State, and was moved to a bush in Degema LGA, where he later died in their hand, and was buried in a shallow grave, which the police later recovered his body during their investigation.

However, at the court, Justice Monina Danagogo found the first, second and fourth defendants, guilty of four charges: conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, conspiracy to murder, and murder.

He sentenced them to seven years in prison for conspiracy to kidnap, 14 years for conspiracy to murder, and death by hanging or lethal injection for kidnapping and murder.

The third defendant, whose name was not disclosed, was discharged and acquitted for lack of evidence.
