Tragedy in Akure as Socialite Hacks Wife to Death, Takes Own Life

A shocking case of murder and suicide has rocked the city of Akure, Ondo State, as a prominent socialite and petrol station owner, Mr Sesan Adelabu, also known as Emirate, killed his wife with a machete and drank a poisonous substance on Friday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who confirmed the incident said that a police officer who worked for the deceased discovered their bodies after receiving a call from their worried child.

According to the PPRO, the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in the Alagbaka area of Akure on Friday.

His remains and that of his wife were said to have been deposited in a morgue.

Funmilayo added that the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladapo, had ordered homicide section to take over the case.

“On Feb. 9, a distress call was received by the police of ‘A’ Division Akure, by men of Special Protection Unit over alleged murder and suicide of a socialite and petrol station owner Sesan Adelabu, and his wife Bolu Adelabu.

“The officer attached to the deceased in his house at Alagbaka area in Akure, received a call from the deceased child around 6:00 p.m. asking after his father, because he was not picking his calls.

“The police man, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him faced down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts, suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.

”Meanwhile, an empty container of sniper was also found at the scene.

“Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and the scene cordoned off to enable police to do the needful ,” the PPRO said.
